The schematics and security codes of Valkin filtered into the Syndicate’s mainframe like a flowing river. Marcus’s mole, nestled within the Alliance, had done well at obtaining a copy of such valuable intel.
It was encrypted and chopped up into millions upon millions of pieces. It was repackaged and concealed as unneeded information that the Alliance wouldn’t look twice at. Every system had a back door, and the Alliance was no exception. Find it and exploit it. It came down to just that.
Marcus wanted nothing more than to throw tactics and strategic moves out the window and just settle for a more barbaric style of guns blazing.
This train of thought went against the way he operated, but it couldn’t be helped. Marcus struggled to get his intellect back on track. It was easier said than done.
Damn it! I can’t concentrate on shit right now!
Marcus leaned forward in his chair, and placed his hands on the sides of his head. He squinted, and tried to settle his scattered brain. The ill-planned thoughts flooding his brain slowly faded to a distant memory, giving him a reprieve.
Better.
The sweaty shot glass, filled halfway with some strong bourbon from the past, waited to be drunk. The partially melted ice cubes clanged around as Marcus grabbed the glass. He swallowed the remainder of the strong liquor with a single gulp. It satisfied his thirst and quieted the thoughts eating away at the black matter of his brain.
All right, back to business.
Marcus set the empty glass off to the side and peered back at his monitor. He opened the encrypted file and began the process of digesting the intel.
The complete layout of the Valkin base appeared in vivid detail. It showed every location of all weapons systems, access points that were not visible from the outside, and what departments were located within the reinforced rock walls.
It wasn’t Cogan or Century City, but Valkin was still an intricate part of the Alliance’s overall plan, and Marcus was eager to take the base out of the equation.
“Get me a strike team prepped and ready for dust off. I want a small tactical squad of Cyclones loaded to the gills with bunker busters and whatever the hell else we have that can chew through the earth!” Marcus ordered over the speaker to his phone.
“Yes, sir!” a voice responded.
Marcus ended the call and immediately hailed Drexis, his main enforcer. When a certain situation called for more of a blunt force response, Drexis was that sledgehammer he sent in. “I want all of these Vipers and Hammerheads thoroughly checked ASAP! Make sure they’re battle ready.”
“Those vehicles needed the new hydraulics and their systems flushed. Those need to have their tires rotated and the navigation systems need to be gone over,” Drexis yelled out to a handful of mechanics who were waiting for their orders. “Yeah. Working on it.”
Flat and void of any attentiveness. That was Drexis’s tone. It was one way he knew he could aggravate Marcus without being overly insubordinate. For now, Marcus needed him, so he had that in his corner.
